FAQ's
What is Somatic Psychotherapy?
Somatic psychotherapy acknowledges that we experience the world through our bodies. Our earliest experiences shape our nervous systems, our view of ourselves and the world. Moving beyond talking, somatic therapy can make the difference - helping us integrate our conscious and unconscious selves to change patterns, beliefs and underlying feelings. Somatic psychotherapy is well suited for mindfully processing trauma - developmental and societal. It offers us the opportunity to re-wire our brains for a more empowering and compassionate relationship with ourselves and others, creating feelings of harmony and satisfaction in our lives.

How will I know if therapy is working and how long will it take?
We will set goals at the beginning of therapy and regularly check in about how you feel about your progress and determine if we are on track. Often, when one goal is reached, another deeper layer reveals itself for healing. The length of therapy is completely up to you.
We sometimes explore material in sessions that will take some time to work through. In between sessions, you will have time to practice and integrate what you have learned and discovered about yourself and your relationships. You may not always feel “good” when you leave my office, but I am committed to walking the path with you every step of the way to increase your overall sense of well-being.

Can I come every other week?
I have found that individual therapy works best when we meet every week.
Couples may come weekly or twice-monthly to start and once a month for maintenance.
